What size conference room table fits into this office space? Our conference room calculator can help.
How do you choose the appropriate size conference table for your conference room?
A general rule of thumb is to have at least 42” between the edge of the table and the wall or other stationary piece, such as a credenza. This allows just enough room to walk behind a person seated at the table. In order to determine the maximum size of conference table that will in your conference room, you will need to measure the length and width of the conference room. Then, subtract 7’ from both measurements, and what you have left is how big your conference table can be. For example, if you have a room that is 19’ long x 12’ wide, then the maximum size of table that will comfortably fit in your conference room is 12’ long x 5’ wide. However, keep in mind that unless you are buying a custom conference table, there are a limited number of standard sizes offered by most conference table manufacturers.
Example:
19′ x 12′ Room Size – 7′ = 12′ x 5′ maximum size of conference room table
Example 2:
21′ x 10′ Room Size – 7′ = 14′ x 3′ maximum size of conference rom table
Example 3:
18′ x 10′ Room Size = 10′ Conference table
How Big Should a Conference Room Be?
Are you wondering how big should a conference room be? Perhaps, you have existing office furniture and want to use it your tables in the new space. We can take the math from above and apply it. Generally speaking, you should allow for at least 24″ to 30” per chair. Then, you also need at least 3′ around each side of the table. If you have a 10′ long table, you need a minimum of 17′ length of room. Know though, that the table would take up that entire room and might feel a bit claustrophobic. I would suggest to pad the room at 19′. Another common rule is that the number of chairs that will fit around the table is the same as the length of the table, meaning 12 average size chairs will comfortably fit around a 12’ table (as pictured above). If you select a large-scale office chairs for your conference table, this rule may not apply.
Conference Room Dimensions
When it comes to conference room dimensions, the standard table size is to be in even number of feet. 6′, 8′, 10′, 12′, 14′ are the most popular. The table width is usually 4′.

Connectrac Flex Power
One of the challenges of a conference room or meeting room is how to handle power. Connectrac Flex Power is a solution for flat power under carpet tiles. Many clients want power in their conference room tables. Since conference tables are typically in the middle of the room, how do you power that table? You can do a core drill in the floor. Depending on the flooring, this isn’t always easy. If you are in a multiple story building, you need to enter the floor below you and disrupt them to do the drill. Or, you can come off the wall and go over the carpet. If you do that, how do you not create a trip hazard or eye sore? This connectrac flex power solution of coming off the wall, but under the carpet tile solves the problem. No trip hazard or eye sore! Reach out to us for a quote!
ADA Requirements in the Office
**Please note-you must have at least 36” between the table edge and the wall per ADA code, but 42” is the minimum recommended, and 48” or greater is ideal.

12 Seater Conference Table Size

Here we installed a 16′ foot x 5′ rectangle conference table. We have 5′ of clearance all around the table. With that 5′ wide table, we could easily add 2 conference chairs on each end of the table to sit 16 or the client can keep it the way they have it as a 12 seater conference table. Some 16′ tables are only 4′ wide. If that is the case, it will be tighter to get 2 people on each end. For us to quote a 16′ conference table for you, please e-mail us at nikim@greencleandesigns.com

Conference Room Size for 10
Although we have encouraged you to have 36″ to 42″ of chair movement space, this client needed a conference room size for 10. The room size was only 15′ x 7’7″. You can see how tight the space is in this room. We had to customize the table in depth and length. There are (2) mobile tables at 50″ x 28″ in this space. The chair was very important. When the conference room is not in use, the arms needed to fit under the table. The chairs also needed to be mobile. The client selected the Herman Miller capers from our used office inventory.
In another example of a 10 foot conference table, we installed this table at an accounting firm. This table is available in multiple laminate finishes.
